Mō tēnei tūranga - about the role

In December 2022, Te Kawa Mataaho Public Service Commission conducted an independent review into the culture of Fire and Emergency New Zealand. As part of the review, recommendations were made to support a positive and inclusive environment for its people resulting in the creation of the Eke Taumata Programme.

We are seeking two experienced Senior Project Advisors, in a fixed term capacity, to support the Leadership workstream of this high-impact programme. You’ll be instrumental in developing frameworks, processes, and guidance to embed inclusive, future-focused practices across the organisation.

This role, which reports to the Workstream Lead - Leadership is varied, with a strong focus on:

  • Talent and succession planning
  • Change management tools and toolkits
  • Designing new ways of working that support cultural transformation


Reporting to the Workstream Lead – Leadership, the Senior Project Advisor is key in supporting the leadership workstream of the Eke Taumata Programme by utilising their subject matter expertise to create frameworks, processes, guidelines and supporting documentation to ensure Fire and Emergency delivers on the required culture change based on the review recommendations. Within this varied role, the primary focus includes the delivery of supporting decisions to enable framework development, talent and succession planning and the development of change management tools and toolkits to support the designing and redesigning of new ways of working, systems and processes.

We are seeking two Senior Project Advisors to join this programme in a fixed term capacity.


Ko tāu nā i tēnei tūranga - What you’ll bring to the role:

Experience in organisational development, in particular with drafting and supporting new frameworks and processes, you will have highly developed skills to define problems, apply creativity, logic and frameworks to the development of options, understanding the risks and trade-offs associated with these elements. As a natural relationship builder, you will demonstrate an ability to establish and maintain organisational relationships and be confident in the ability to brief senior leaders and representation of the organisation in a variety of forums.


To be successful in this role, we’d expect you will have:

  • A tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline
  • An ability to express complex thoughts and ideas, both verbally and in written form
  • Proven experience delivering cross functional projects involving a wide range of stakeholders
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, able to think strategically, evaluate trade-offs, and offer well-considered opinions
  • A proactive and organised approach, with the ability to work at pace
  • Excellent stakeholder management, clear communication and writing skills.
  • A solid level of credibility to instil confidence in others
  • Excellent planning and organisational skills
  • Experience in project management disciplines
  • Experience and empathy for volunteering or working with volunteers (desirable)

The salary range for this role is $114,663-$127,404 (pro rata), dependent on skills and experience relevant to the role.
