About the Role
We have a permanent full time Advanced Clinician Speech Language Therapist-stroke, neurology and rehabilitation available for an experienced New Zealand Registered Speech Therapist who would be keen to join our dynamic and supportive Speech Language Therapy (SLT) Service based at Auckland City Hospital. This role is part of the SLT team and would see you working full time (40 hours /week) Monday to Friday (part time hours negotiable for the right candidate). This role will primarily be based in Taiao Ora, our integrated stroke and rehabilitation unit, working with across the patient continuum from hyper acute to rehabilitation settings:
- Proactively work with a complex caseload delivering high quality outcome focused innovative care, applying evidence-based practice, interventions and education
- Collaborate nationally and internationally with National Stroke Networks toward evidence based pathways in line with recognised stroke guidelines to address the needs of patients and their whānau as they navigate their stroke journey.
- Assess and manage patients with swallowing or communication needs along the stroke pathway within Taiao Ora (our Integrated Stroke Unit) and at times from Critical Care Settings into rehabilitation in Taiao Ora.
- Collaborate with team members and other work groups to achieve service objectives.
- Supervise and coach students and staff.
- Develop positive working relationships with our clients and their whānau as well as with the interdisciplinary team and regional and national stakeholders.
- Commit to continued professional development and continually strive for improved patient care and experience.
- Reporting to the Clinical Lead Speech Language Therapy. You would also be supported professionally, by the Professional Leader – Speech Language Therapy.
About the Team/Service/ Location
Our team is made up of passionate and supportive Speech Language Therapists who are dedicated to advocating for our patients and enhancing patient outcomes within our community. The SLT team comprises 16.2 FTE, working across both inpatient and outpatient settings.

About you
As the ideal person for this role, you will have the following skills and attributes:
- New Zealand Registered Speech Language Therapist with a current Annual Practicing Certificate
- 6+ years post-qualification experience, with at least 4 years working within the areas of stoke, neurology and rehabilitation.
- Proven advanced skills in the use of FEES, Videofluoroscopy, and tracheostomy management.
- An understanding of bicultural issues and commitment to the Treaty of Waitangi
- Ability to work collaboratively with a range of professional groups in a multidisciplinary setting
- Effective time management, flexibility, prioritisation and organisation skills
- Drive, energy and initiative with excellent communication and interpersonal skills and a proven track record in leading others and driving service development.
