About your team / Ko te tima

New Zealand Mining Board of Examiners (BoE) and Operational Support team advises WorkSafe on competencies, examines applicants and issues and renews certificates of competence (CoC), among other functions.

We are a highly effective team which provides high quality advice and support to the BoE. This includes providing secretarial support to the Board, providing advice on a wide variety of topics, implementing the BoE's decisions, and working on projects. We work out in the industry, engaging with industry organisations and individuals within the extractives industry.

About the role / O te turanga

Working closely with the Chief Inspector, the Manager of the BoE and the Senior Advisor, the Advisor has an important role supporting and advising the operations of the BoE and its secretariat by providing professional and exceptional customer-focussed service advisory and operational services (including administering and maintaining the BoE's records and databases).

We're looking for a detail-oriented and efficient professional to join our team in a role that includes processing CoC applications consistent with regulatory and BoE requirements - this involves a high level of accuracy using automated systems. The ideal candidate will be comfortable navigating digital tools and systems to ensure streamlined and timely processing of application data.

In addition to technical proficiency, this role requires someone with strong communication skills and the confidence to liaise effectively with the BoE on matters relating to CoC applications and governance. You'll need to be professional, well-organised, and capable of managing both administrative tasks and external stakeholder interactions with ease.

What You'll Do/ Ko tou ake mahi

  • Ensure accurate maintenance of the Certificate of Competence (CoC) register and provide quality advice and support throughout the application processes.
  • Receive, review, and process CoC applications, including issuing certificates and handling cases where competence is not yet achieved.
  • Maintain databases and records with high accuracy using internal systems and retrieve information for analysis and reporting.
  • Provide full administrative support to the Board of Examiners and oral examination panels, including scheduling and coordination.
  • Organise examination venues, travel, accommodation, catering, and other logistics for BoE-related activities.
  • Offer timely and accurate advice to CoC applicants, holders, and stakeholders, serving as a key contact for queries.
  • Build strong relationships with internal and external parties, working collaboratively to support and resolve issues effectively.

  • Demonstrate high-level oral and written communication, with the ability to manage challenging relationships and deliver excellent customer service.

  • Self-motivated, proactive, willing to support others, and contributes positively with a can-do attitude.

Salary range / Awhe utu

As part of our remuneration framework the full salary range for the position is from $81,587 to $106,892, and our expected starting base salary for the right person is from $81,587 to $90,021. Note: KiwiSaver/SSRSS employer contribution is additional to/on top of your base salary.
