  • Full-Time, Permanent | Wellington – Asteron Office | Starting Salary: $83,600-$102,302pa.

By joining us, you will be part of a team where meaningful work, collaboration and innovation come together to help keep New Zealand’s skies safe and secure.

At the Civil Aviation Authority of New Zealand, we are constantly evolving to meet the demands of a changing environment and the aviation industry.
Recent legislative changes, along with an organisational realignment, have opened exciting new opportunities across the organisation. These changes are part of a broader effort to better position our teams for the future by enabling us to be more collaborative, efficient and effective in everything we do.

As we step confidently into our role as a modern regulator, we are embracing intelligence-led, risk-based approaches that help us make a real difference for our people and the communities we serve – with a strong value-for-money ethos. We’re also committed to enabling aviation participants to support economic growth in New Zealand's aviation sector.

About the role

At the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), we are seeking a driven and solution-oriented advisor to join our Commercial and Procurement team. From creating important procurement documentation to offering guidance on policy, sustainability, and the use of All-of-Government contracts, you will be able to assist managers in a variety of commercial and procurement activities with reliable, best-practice advice and support in this role.

You'll be crucial in assisting with project delivery, enhancing procedures, and fostering cooperative relationships throughout the organisation. Civil Aviation Authorities procurement procedures will be more reliable, open, and future-ready if you can evaluate whole-of-life costs and risks, analyse procurement options, and assist with efficient contract management.

For someone who likes to work proactively with stakeholders to solve issues and have a positive impact, this is a fantastic opportunity.

The starting salary for the Advisor, Commercial and Procurement within Corporate Services group is between $83,600 and $102,302. Starting salaries are based on knowledge, skills and experience the successful candidate brings to the role, as well as internal relativities.

What You’ll Bring

We are looking for a self-motivated, strategic thinker with excellent relationship building skills who enjoys making a difference in an environment that is outcomes focused. We are looking for someone who is ready to contribute to procurement and commercial initiatives across the organisation.

You will have proven experience, ideally in managing end to end open sourcing procurement initiatives within the public sector. You will also have successfully negotiated contracts that reflect the best possible outcomes for an organisation.

Essential to securing this role will be your ability to demonstrate:

  • Experience in commercial advisory and/or procurement, preferably in the public sector
  • Strong knowledge of sourcing and procurement best practices
  • Proficiency in contract management, supplier negotiations, and relationship strategies
  • Ability to read and evaluate complex documents and information, such as financial, legal, and corporate data
  • Outstanding interpersonal abilities with internal and external stakeholders
  • Excellent communication skills both in writing and verbal
  • High precision and attention to detail. Self-driven, well-organised, and capable of working both individually and collaboratively within a team.

Although you will have firm foundation in procurement practice, there will be opportunities to develop new skills and take on more challenging projects. You will join a small team, so there will be plenty of opportunity for learning and sharing new ideas.
