Permanent Full Time - Animal Control Officer

Ōtepoti Dunedin is one of the world's great small cities—where community, culture, and nature thrive together. At the Dunedin City Council (DCC), we're proud to deliver services that support the wellbeing of our residents, including the safety and care of our city's animals.
We're looking for a proactive and compassionate Animal Control Officer to join our dedicated Animal Services team. This is a hands-on role where you'll promote responsible dog ownership, respond to incidents, and help ensure the safety of both animals and people across our district.
What You'll Do
- Respond to complaints and incidents involving dogs and livestock
- Educate the public on responsible ownership and animal behaviour
- Investigate and manage cases involving dangerous or menacing dogs
- Build positive relationships with dog owners, community groups, and stakeholders
- Support public safety and uphold relevant legislation.
Hours of Work
- Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 5:00pm
- Weekend shifts on a rotating roster
- Seasonal roster includes one late shift and one early shift during summer
What You'll Bring
- Experience in animal handling
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills
- A current NZ driver's licence
