What you will be doing:
You will be working with NIWA's aquatic biosecurity team to identify, monitor and manage aquatic invasive species, with a particular focus on the ecology and remediation of invasive species. You will take both team member and leadership roles in project field work, and you will also lead and contribute to the development of proposals for new work in the area of aquatic biosecurity and invasive species management in both marine and freshwater environments.
You will work across NIWA with a team of enthusiastic professionals, working to monitor and protect Aotearoa New Zealand's aquatic biodiversity.
What you will bring:
- A PhD in Aquatic or Marine Ecology, or a related field, with a minimum of 3 years relevant post-PhD experience
- Experience in invasive species detection and management
- Experience in proposal writing and in leading and managing small to medium-sized projects
- Experience in both scientific research and commercial consulting work
- Proven ability to work co-operatively in a team environment, taking both team member and team leader roles
- A track record of publishing scientific papers in international, peer-reviewed journals and writing technical reports
- Experience in aquatic field work, including working on boats
- Experience in scientific diving would be an advantage
- Ability to build and sustain positive relationships with colleagues and clients
