Job Description
About Us
Do Yourself a Power of Good
Vector is collaborating with AWS and other leading global technology firms—right here in Aotearoa New Zealand—to tackle some of the world’s biggest energy challenges.
In 2020, Vector and Amazon Web Services (AWS) formed an alliance to co-develop Diverge, a cloud-native data platform. This partnership evolved into Vector Technology Services (VTS), a wholly owned subsidiary of Vector, New Zealand’s largest distributor of electricity and gas.
At VTS, our strategy is to deliver commercially valuable, cloud-native platforms that solve today’s energy challenges while staying primed for future innovation. We're guided by the four Ds:
- Decarbonisation,
- Decentralisation
- Democratisation
- Digitalisation
The Opportunity
We’re on a mission to revolutionise how energy data is managed, accessed, and used globally. At the intersection of cloud-native platforms, energy systems, and industry data, VTS is breaking new ground—and we need a sharp, customer-focused Senior Business Analyst to help shape what’s next.
…This is where you come in!
In this role, you’ll be a trusted partner in the design, development, and delivery of data platforms that power the energy transition. You’ll work closely with Product Managers, Engineers, and a range of stakeholders to understand how electricity data flows across systems, uncover gaps, validate requirements, and drive insight-led decisions that deliver real business value.
In a typical week, you can expect to:
- Analyse and articulate customer needs, business processes, and system landscapes – including how data flows across energy metering, customer, and regulatory systems
- Map current vs. future state processes, identify gaps and edge cases, and support decision-making with evidence, insight, and context
- Collaborate with Product Managers to define and connect product outcomes to measurable business value
- Translate complex information into clear, actionable content for both technical and non-technical audiences
- Develop and contribute to acceptance criteria, testable scenarios, and backlog refinement
- Support prioritisation by articulating trade-offs, interdependencies, and business impacts
- Bring energy domain understanding—particularly around electricity distribution and metering—to ground conversations in reality
What You Will Bring:
- 5+ years as a Business Analyst or similar role, ideally within enterprise software, energy, or data-heavy environments
- Strong analytical skills, with experience validating complex data inputs across multiple systems
- Proven ability to piece together incomplete information and uncover hidden assumptions
- Experience navigating regulatory frameworks or market models (e.g., electricity retail, metering)
- Outstanding communication and stakeholder engagement skills, able to align diverse viewpoints and inspire action without relying on authority
- Demonstrated comfort working with ambiguity and shifting priorities in fast-moving environments
- A genuine interest in the energy transition, electrification, and the role data plays in enabling innovation
We Also Offer:
- • A fun, flexible, and stimulating work environment, filled with interesting work being done by smart and innovative people
- • Flexibility, including the option to work from home a couple of days a week, and flexible start and finish times to help balance work and life
- • Health and wellbeing support
- • Great benefits that reflect the importance of family
