A great place to work. With great work to do.

At the Financial Markets Authority (FMA), our work has real meaning and impact. As kaitiaki (guardians) of New Zealand's financial services system, we help shape a market that delivers fair, transparent, and trusted outcomes for all. Our values guide how we work — Look to the Horizon, Help the Team Work, Make the Calls, and Open Hearts, Open Minds — ensuring we stay true to our purpose every day.

Te Tūranga | The Role

We're looking for a seasoned HR professional to join our high-performing, close-knit People team as an HR Business Partner. This role offers the opportunity to partner with people leaders and employees across a national portfolio, providing expert advice and support that is aligned with our strategic direction.

As a trusted advisor, you'll play a key role in enabling great leadership and a people-first approach to performance, engagement, and culture. This is a broad and varied position, involving everything from day-to-day people support and employee relations to managing cyclical HR processes and contributing to organisation-wide projects.

He kōrero mōu | About you

As our remit continues to grow and the environment we work in evolves, we're seeking a proactive and adaptable HR professional who thrives on meaningful work and brings:

  • A solid background in HR generalist roles at a Business Partnering level, with a strong appreciation for how people practices contribute to business success.
  • A commercial mindset paired with a people-centred approach, enabling you to balance organisational goals with employee wellbeing.
  • A collaborative style and proven reputation as a trusted advisor who gets things done, manages risk effectively, and influences outcomes.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the confidence to coach, challenge and support people at all levels.
  • Courage, curiosity, and fresh thinking — you're comfortable having honest conversations, introducing new ideas, and building strong, respectful relationships.

Ngā painga | What we offer

We're proud to offer a workplace where you can thrive — professionally and personally. Our benefits include:

  • 4% employer KiwiSaver contribution
  • Health and life insurance
  • Additional paid leave during the Christmas period
  • The option to swap public holidays for days that hold personal significance
  • Robust learning and development opportunities — from leadership development and technical training to external coaching

At the FMA we're committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive environment where every individual feels valued, respected, and empowered to bring their authentic self to work each day. We offer a range of wellness and social activities designed to support our people with aspects of their personal and professional lives and genuinely connect with their colleagues.
