We have a great opportunity for a suitably qualified and experienced seagoing engineer to join the
team on the research vessel Tangaroa.
What you will be doing:
The Chief Engineer aboard RV Tangaroa leads the engineering department aboard the vessel and is responsible for the safe, efficient, and compliant operation and maintenance of all mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and auxiliary systems. The Chief Engineer ensures the vessel's operational readiness, regulatory compliance, engineering documentation, and engineering team performance, contributing to NIWA's research capability and vessel reliability.
What you will bring:
To be successful in this role you will have:
- MEC1 or MEC2 Endorsed Chief Engineer (ECE)
- 5+ Years as Chief Engineer
- Experience on vessels of equivalent class and function (desirable)
- Current Maritime Medical
- In-date ancillary certificates (STCW Basic, AFF, PISC, Medical First Aid, etc)
- Ideally available to start in late July
