We’re looking for an experienced Civil Laboratory Manager to head up our laboratory operations in Hamilton.
We’re looking for an experienced Civil Laboratory Manager to head up our laboratory operations in Hamilton.
Our team is involved in a wide variety of projects, including asphalt and aggregate design and testing, a comprehensive range of field testing (primarily throughout the Waikato, but also across New Zealand and the Islands), as well as grip testing services.
In this role, you’ll be responsible for the full end-to-end planning, allocation of resources, and coordination of work for both internal and external clients. You’ll play a key role in ensuring all targets are not just met, but exceeded—covering safety, quality, budgets, scheduling, and overall project outcomes.
As a Laboratory Manager, you will:
- Bring at least 3 years’ experience in sampling, laboratory and site testing of civil construction materials, such as aggregates, soils, and asphalt.
- Have prior experience managing the day-to-day operations within a laboratory environment.
- Take responsibility for forward planning, organising, and ordering materials and subcontractors.
- Use strong leadership skills to foster a positive, collaborative workplace culture
- Show well-developed financial and commercial skills, including expertise in budgeting, forecasting, cost control, and managing claims.
- Be knowledgeable in testing road and airport texture across New Zealand.
- Undertake design work for aggregate and asphalt mix compositions.
- Accurately record, analyse, and report on test results.
- Ensure all test methods comply with IANZ and other relevant standards.
- Passion and commitment to safety in the workplace.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving and interpersonal skills.
- Hold a full class 1 driver’s licence.
