About the Role
As Principal Clinical Advisor – Nursing (Infection Prevention and Control), you will provide national nursing leadership across programmes focused on monitoring, reporting and reducing healthcare-associated infections (HAIs). You'll work closely with the National IPC team, District IPC teams, and sector partners to support the development and implementation of initiatives that reduce HAI's and strengthen infection prevention practices across the health system.
This role contributes to the development of national IPC policies, guidelines, and resources—both for current priorities and emerging issues. You'll also support the delivery of education, training, and communications that promote consistent, evidence-informed practice.
This is a collaborative role that requires strong clinical insight, a systems approach, and the ability to work across teams to support safer care for patients, whānau and staff.
About the Team/Service/ Location
This role will report to the IPC Programme Manager, part of the Quality and Patient Safety team within the Office Chief Clinical Officer (OCCO) to ensure the delivery of safe, high-quality patient care to achieve Health New Zealand goals.
About you
You're a senior registered nurse with a strong foundation in infection prevention and control. You bring hands-on experience in quality improvement and change projects, and you're confident supporting the delivery of national programmes that improve patient safety and reduce healthcare-associated infections.
You thrive on turning complex clinical and technical information into clear, practical guidance. You're comfortable working with data to support monitoring, evaluation, and continuous improvement of IPC initiatives. You also bring a sound understanding of IPC standards and guidelines and apply these confidently in your work.
Your ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of audiences—whether through written reports, presentations, or one-on-one conversations—makes you a trusted advisor and collaborator. You show initiative, embrace flexibility, and contribute positively to the whole team. You're committed to equity and bring Te Tiriti o Waitangi into action in your work.
