About the Role

The Intellectual Disability Forensic Service is looking for a clinical psychologist to join the Regional Intellectual Disability Consultation and Assessment Service (RIDCAS) Community Team.

There is opportunity to join the team full time or part time and you may like to combine a part time role in the community team with a part time role in our inpatient service. RIDCAS a small specialist team comprised of medical, nursing and psychology clinicians.

You will be part of a supportive and experienced multi-disciplinary team that provides specialist care to people with intellectual disability and mental health problems and/or who have been placed in a community accommodation service by the courts after being found unfit, for a period of rehabilitation.

Your areas of professional interest will be fostered, and your expertise in psychological assessment and formulation, individual and group treatment welcomed.

You will be a valued and active member of a multi-disciplinary team (MDT). In your role you will work collaboratively with other health professionals to design and deliver evidence based care and rehabilitation.

In addition to your direct clinical work you will be given many opportunities to contribute to service improvement work. The Intellectual Disability Service is growing and the direction of travel very much welcomes psychological knowledge, theory and process.

The successful applicant will also be supported by the broader MHAIDS network of clinical psychologists.

About the Team/Service/ Location

RIDCAS provides short term, intensive assessments, recommendations and advice for adult community and inpatient mental health services.

We also provide training and education on intellectual disability and mental health related issues to mental health services and NGOs.

RIDCAS has two contracts:

Our mental health contract provides tertiary services for adults with an intellectual disability and co-existing mental illness. Secondary mental health services are able to directly refer clients with an intellectual disability to RIDCAS for a mental health assessment.

Our forensic disability contract provides services for clients referred through FCS (ID) Forensic Coordination Service (Intellectual Disability). Our clients are usually Care Recipients under the Intellectual Disability (Compulsory Care and Rehabilitation) Act, 2003 who have been convicted or found unfit to stand trial. They are required to live in a community facility a Regional Intellectual Disability Secure Accommodation Service (RIDSAS) for a period of rehabilitation.

RIDCAS is available to people living in the central region of the North Island and includes Horowhenua, Manawatu, Whanganui, Kapiti, Porirua, Wellington, Hutt Valley, Wairarapa, Hawke - s Bay and Tairawhiti regions (although the forensic contract excludes Tairawhiti).

RIDCAS is part of a larger Intellectual Disability Forensic services that provides inpatient care to both adults and youth who are referred into service by FCS(ID).

About you

You will have completed a postgraduate diploma in clinical psychology (or equivalent) and hold a Masters or Doctoral level degree in psychology. You will hold an annual practicing certificate, registered with the clinical scope of practice.
