About the Role

As a Community Dental Specialist, you will be part of a regionally focused service with a strong health promotion and prevention ethos. Your clinical leadership and support will help maintain and develop the competence of our dental workforce while ensuring high-quality, accessible care for tamariki and rangatahi. You - ll play a key role in assessing and managing children with complex needs, providing specialist input, and helping guide service delivery across the region.

This is a rewarding opportunity to influence the future of oral health in Canterbury while working in a supportive and collaborative team environment. You will also contribute to workforce development, service design, and training alongside clinical delivery.

About the Team / Service / Location

The Community Dental Service provides dental care to approximately 110,000 children aged 0 - 13 across Canterbury and South Canterbury. Our diverse team of dental and oral health therapists, dental assistants, and support staff are passionate about reducing oral health inequalities and fostering strong connections with whānau and communities.

About You

You will be a specialist in paediatric dentistry or dental public health, or working towards achieving this scope. You will also bring:

  • A current registration (or eligibility) as a Dental Specialist with the Dental Council of New Zealand
  • Demonstrated commitment to child-centred care and community health
  • Experience in leadership, clinical governance, or quality improvement
  • Excellent communication skills with a collaborative, whānau-centred approach
  • Passion for supporting workforce capability and service innovation
