About us
We are looking for a skilled and passionate Cook to join our vibrant kitchen team. We guarantee a minimum of 30 hours per week with a pay rate between $25-$29 p/h.
The restaurant is a busy fine dining restaurant, one of the longest-running restaurants in Wellington with a solid reputation for its unique Indian cuisine and outstanding service.

Tasks & responsibilities
- Prepare a wide range of Indian dishes using traditional methods and authentic spices
- Monitor ingredient freshness and conduct quality checks before use
- Operate and adjust kitchen equipment such as tandoors, ovens, grills, and fryers to maintain optimal cooking temperatures
- Season, taste, and adjust recipes during preparation to maintain consistency and flavour profiles
- Plate dishes with attention to portion control, visual presentation, and final garnishing
- Safely store raw and cooked items in appropriate conditions to meet food safety standards
- Modify dishes based on dietary needs, such as gluten-free, vegan, or low-spice options
- Assist with menu development and contribute to estimating daily and weekly food supply needs
- Guide junior staff with food preparation techniques and safe kitchen practices
- Support kitchen efficiency through proper mise-en-place and inventory rotation
- Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the kitchen according to hygiene regulations
Qualifications & experience
- Minimum 2 years of experience working as a cook in an Indian restaurant or level 4 or higher qualification in hotel management, cookery or any related industry
- Familiarity with Indian regional cuisines and cooking techniques
- Ability to multitask in a high-pressure kitchen environment
- Strong teamwork and communication skills
- Flexible availability, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays
