Mainland Turkish Limited is seeking a cook to serve our busy souvlaki shops in Christchurch. This is a full-time role (minimum 30 hours per week); however, weekend and public holiday availability is required.
You will be responsible to prepare, season and cook traditional Turkish souvlaki and other menu items in a fast‑paced shop setting. You will ensure consistent quality, maintain food hygiene standards and help deliver a great customer experience.
Key responsibilities
- check incoming ingredients (meat, vegetables, bread and spices) for freshness and quality
- control grill, oven and stove temperatures when cooking souvlaki, wraps and side dishes
- marinate, season and cook meats (lamb, chicken or beef) to recipe specifications
- prepare salads, sauces and dips to accompany mains
- portion cooked items, assemble and plate wraps or plates with appropriate garnishes
- monitor and refill ingredient and stock levels to meet service needs
- store food safely in temperature‑controlled areas and rotate stock
- adapt recipes or cooking methods to meet dietary requirements (vegetarian, vegan, gluten‑free)
- assist with basic menu planning and ingredient ordering estimates
- follow all food safety, hygiene and equipment maintenance procedures
Requirements:
- Previous relevant experience for minimum 2 years or level 4 qualification
- Knowledge of food safety and hygiene regulations
- Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and public holidays
- Good time management and teamwork skills
- Payrate for cook will be $27.00 to $31.00 - depending on your skills.
