About the Role

  • An exciting and unique opportunity is available for an experienced dietitian to join the Diabetes Team working with people with Type 1 diabetes, with a focus on (but not limited to) youth and young adult, diabetes in pregnancy, and insulin pump therapy teams.
  • Flexibility to work across all diabetes sub-specialty teams is required making this an excellent proposition for anyone looking to advance their career in a specialty area.

This dietitian role will involve having a number of patient clinics throughout the Waikato Region. You will be involved in education and training, as well as providing support and leadership to the Diabetes team. Days and hours of work will be negotiated with the successful candidate.

Key responsibilities of the role:

  • Work with adolescents, and adults who have Type 1 Diabetes, complex Type 2 Diabetes, diabetes in pregnancy, chronic kidney disease, and other high risk diabetes related conditions and complications.
  • Provide education to those using continuous insulin pump therapy and other technical devices for diabetes management, as well as being an important member of the Pump Therapy Training Team commencing people with Type 1 diabetes on insulin pump therapy.
  • Provide professional mentorship to new dietetic staff and peers, promote a supportive learning environment within the team.
  • Deliver improved outcomes for people with diabetes through innovative service delivery and the development of practice and research.

About the Service

Te Whatu Ora Waikato Regional Diabetes Service provides secondary level care to those within the Waikato Region. This expands as far as Coromandel, Taumarunui, Te Kauwhata and the Raglan coast. We have a large multi-disciplinary team and promote a positive approach to teamwork. We are committed to and support the learning and development of our staff to give the best possible care to our patients.


About you

Skills and experience you’ll need to be considered for the role:

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience as a dietitian in a clinical setting(. We would consider a new graduate with at least one-year’s clinical experience who has a passion for working with people with diabetes.)
  • Experience working with people with diabetes
  • Annual Practicing Certificate
  • Drivers licence
  • Competency with te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori or a commitment to starting your journey and taking ownership of your learning and growth
  • Experience in upholding Te Tiriti principals and frameworks, and the application of Mātauranga Māori and Kaupapa Māori approaches, particularly as they apply in healthcare settings.
