Te Mahi – About the job
Lead the Morning Report afternoon and evening production team to deliver a vibrant, agenda-setting morning listening experience across on-air and online platforms.
Working Sunday to Thursday, you’ll oversee the production of high impact interviews, craft engaging scripts, and apply strong research to support quality journalism. This role utilises a range of storytelling techniques, including online visual elements, while also developing and engaging audiences through social media.
Working in the afternoon and evening, you’ll be leading a team, setting clear direction, and providing ongoing support to ensure the delivery of high-quality programming that reflects RNZ’s commitment to independence, impartiality, and innovation.
Ōu Pūkenga - About You
You’ll be an experienced journalist and leader who has great editorial judgment and a track record of shaping compelling content.
You’ll bring:

A tertiary qualification in journalism and multi-media broadcast production experience is essential.

Proven leadership experience with the ability to mentor, develop and inspire a high-performing team.

Experience in financial management and working within the confines of a set budget.

A working knowledge of the media landscape including, but not limited to, competitor products, audience behaviour, and where RNZ needs to be.

Strong writing and subbing skills, with the ability to produce engaging interviews and background materials.

Quick-thinking and proactive in responding to audience needs, breaking news, and evolving stories in real time.

The confidence to lead editorial planning, generate new programme ideas, and deliver impactful and original journalism.

An understanding of digital trends and how to engage audiences across platforms.

A collaborative, constructive working style with strong relationship skills.
