Gastroenterologist - Dunedin Hospital

Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora
Dunedin
Full time

  • Invercargill or Dunedin
  • 1.0 FTE - Permanent, fixed-term or locum
  • Salary: Base salary from ASMS MECA 2024 (NZD 185,380 - 267,980) plus additional allowances

Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora is firmly grounded in the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and is dedicated to serving all New Zealanders. Through integration and collaboration, we're building a health system underpinned by partnership, equity, sustainability, whānau-centred care, and excellence.

About the role

We have a fantastic opportunity for a Consultant Gastroenterologist role that is affiliated with the University of Otago. Although our Gastroenterology service welcomes applications for the position starting as soon as possible, there is also room for flexibility with us to negotiate the hours of work and length of employment as well the possibility of combining with General Medicine with the successful applicant.

Health New Zealand - Southern offers a comprehensive range of Gastroenterology services in both of our main hospitals, located in Dunedin and Invercargill, as well as outpatient clinics in other areas of the district. Even though this role is based in Southland, consideration would be given to a candidate who wishes to be based in Dunedin; however, this would still require travel to Invercargill.

In this role, you will participate in a 1:4 on-call roster and provide a full range of Gastroenterology services alongside an enthusiastic group of colleagues. Planning is currently underway to re-develop facilities and expand the department so there will be opportunities to contribute to this development. There are also unlimited possibilities for laboratory and clinical based research and there is plenty of scope for collaboration with like-minded researchers. To be successful in this role, you'll need to have enthusiasm for teaching and be a team player with a commitment to improving and developing service delivery quality.

About you

Appointed specialists will possess FRACP or an equivalent qualification. Trainees within a few months of completing FRACP training are welcome to express an interest. ERCP experience is desirable, but not essential. We would consider candidates who are close to completing your specialist training and be eligible for vocational registration with Medical Council of New Zealand.
