The Opportunity
Based in the idyllic Tasman Region, we are looking for a reliable Grounds person to join our Maintenance Team, working primarily on our Te Whatu Ora maintenance contract. You will be someone who enjoys working outdoors, is fit, and may be working towards your Horticulture qualifications, of which we would look at subsidising.
Based at the Nelson Hospital grounds your daily activities will involve horticulture maintenance within the area. This role involves vegetation trimming, spray maintenance and some planting. Your work will include using various hand tools, power tools and operating small equipment, in, what you will be aware, is a sensitive environment.
At times there may be other work available offsite that needs to be undertaken.
You will be working a minimum of 20 hours a week however flexibility is a must as, at times, you may be called upon to work additional hours, (Spring growth periods) or afterhours call outs.
What you’ll bring to the table
- An energetic personality, and ability to converse easily with both clients and customers.
- Full class 1 full drivers licence, class 2 is advantageous.
- Horticulture skills are preferred.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Physically fit and able to perform physically demanding tasks.
- Be reliable and trustworthy.
- Proactive around Health and Safety.
- And of course, you will be a team player, have an eye for detail, and a can-do-attitude
Knowledge of materials, methods and tools involved in road construction and maintenance is desired although not essential.
