About us

The Electricity Authority Te Mana Hiko is an independent Crown entity that regulates the electricity market. We are a kaitiaki of electricity, and our purpose is to enhance New Zealanders' lives, prosperity, and environment through electricity.

The electricity industry is at a pivotal moment, with the journey towards renewable energy sources and innovation reshaping how we operate. To meet these challenges and opportunities, we're evolving as an organisation - growing our capabilities, expanding our reach, and building a team ready to create a brighter, more sustainable future for Aotearoa. Our focus is on making a difference through bold thinking, collaboration, and delivering value for the communities we serve.

About the role

As Head of People and Capability, you'll lead a high-impact function, shape and deliver people strategies that align with our organisational goals. As a trusted business partner to the Chief Executive and Senior Leadership team, you'll play a key role in driving initiatives that support our people throughout their journey at the Authority.

Key responsibilities

You will support the organisation through:

  • developing and delivering people strategies aligned with organisational goals
  • providing trusted advice to the Chief Executive and Senior Leadership team on matters of organisational culture and performance, employee engagement, and leadership development
  • high-quality leadership, change management, and professional development across the organisation
  • promoting a positive, inclusive, and values-based culture

Are you someone with the following?

  • Demonstrated success in developing and executing People and Capability strategies that enhance organisational performance
  • Strong systems thinking and strategic planning experience, with the ability to align people strategies with organisational goals
  • Demonstrated ability to lead organisational and cultural change effectively and empathetically
  • Comfort operating in ambiguous and fast-paced environments, and the agility to adapt and lead through complexity
  • Minimum of three years' experience leading a People and Capability function
  • Strong knowledge of employment law, employee relations, compliance, and HR best practices
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • The ability to build and maintain relationships with a broad range of stakeholders

Why work for us?

Electricity plays a critical role in the quality of our lives and businesses. As an electricity kaitiaki our work is diverse, intellectually challenging and contributes to our communities, economy, environment, and the nation as a whole. We are a small but high-impact organisation where talented individuals can make a real difference. We foster an open, collaborative environment that encourages quality, innovation, ongoing learning, and knowledge sharing.

As a senior leader, you will be encouraged and supported to develop and communicate your vision, engage with and motivate people to participate and makes things happen. You will also be able to contribute beyond your core functional areas to enhance overall effectiveness of the Corporate and Market Services Leadership team and other business groups to achieve outcomes for the Authority. This role offers a competitive remuneration and benefits package.
