The Opportunity
BGIS is seeking a passionate and experienced Health, Safety, Environment, & Quality (HSEQ) Coordinator to join our HSEQ team based in Christchurch. This pivotal role focuses on the development and delivery of HSEQ training, communications, and wellbeing initiatives to support BGIS in meeting its HSEQ objectives and compliance obligations.
Your primary objectives are to champion a proactive safety culture, drive continuous learning, and ensure all staff have access to best-practice training and information – enabling them to perform their roles safely, effectively, and in alignment with company values and client expectations.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Lead and facilitate toolbox discussions with large trades teams during site visits to promote safety awareness and proactive hazard management
- Coordinate, design, and deliver HSEQ training programs, including employee inductions, compliance modules, the HSEQ Ambassador Program, and engaging online wellbeing webinars
- Perform regular safety audits and inspections across client sites to ensure compliance with Workplace Health, Safety, Environment, and Quality (WHSEQ) standards and identify continuous improvement opportunities
- Build and maintain strong relationships with a wide range of stakeholders through clear, effective communication and collaborative engagement
- Review, update, and write HSEQ policies and procedures to maintain alignment with regulatory requirements and industry best practices
- Produce accurate and timely HSEQ reports and data analysis to meet strict deadlines, supporting operational and compliance Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
What We’re Looking For
We’re looking for a proactive leader who is enthusiastic about HSEQ excellence and people engagement, and who can execute with authority.
Essential:
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a Health, Safety, Environment, and Quality (HSEQ) administrator, coordinator, or advisor role
- Minimum NZ Certificate in Health & Safety (Level 4) or an equivalent or higher recognised qualification
- Proven experience in Building Services Projects or Construction Management or similar operational leadership role
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively across all levels and walks of life
- Confident navigating difficult conversations and applying corrective actions to drive behavioural and situational improvements
- Proven experience delivering Work Health and Safety (WHS) training, employee inductions, and e-learning programs, and proficient in Microsoft Office
- Organised self-starter who can take ownership of the role from day one and meet deadlines in a team-oriented environment
Desirable:
- Prior experience within large-scale construction, logistics, trades, or industrial environments
- Experience applying adult learning principles to training design and delivery, and communicating with both entry-level roles and senior executives
