We are the Cloud Database team within the Engineering Products domain and wider Technology. The CloudDB team is responsible for enabling our delivery teams who need relational data stored in the cloud. We also support legacy databases running on premise and look to migrate those systems to cloud over time.
This is an Auckland based hybrid role with three days in the office and two where you can work flexibly. Anchor days in the office are Tuesday and Thursday, as well as a Monday or Friday.

What are 5 day-to-day tasks the person in this role will complete?
  • Take part in daily standup meetings catching up on progress, roadblocks, and touching base with the wider team.
  • Troubleshooting issues with our customers.
  • Working on automation that makes our work more efficient.
  • Identifying opportunities for improvement on the products we support.
  • Take part in bi-weekly planning, retros, and other rituals the team runs.
What is the team culture and environment like?
We have a close-knit team that looks after one another. We are a supportive group and always looking to how we can expand our technical skill sets together.
What projects / work will the candidate be working on now and into the next year?
  • Automation work to improve currency and system vulnerabilities.
  • Support our legacy databases including after hours when ready.
  • Contributing to the team building new environments for our systems.
  • Support our cloud tooling and helping our customers to adopt them.
What is the most exciting thing about this opportunity?
The most exciting aspect is the scope of work the candidate will have the opportunity to work in. There's a real opportunity to drastically expand their skillset in a myriad of areas.
What is the most challenging thing about this opportunity?
Supporting vital systems at BNZ that need to be ALWAYS on.
What technical skills are required for this role?
  • An understanding of databases and the critical role they play in most systems.
  • An understanding of the challenges development teams face and motivation to help them be more efficient.
  • Familiarity with agile development methodologies.
  • 3+ or more years working in a collaborative technical environment.
What are some skill that would be nice to have?
  • Linux administration skills.
  • Administrative background for PostgreSQL and/or IBM DB2 LUW.
  • AWS/Azure cloud experience.
  • Infrastructure automation background.
