Company Description
Z has a clear purpose: Powering better journeys, today and tomorrow. As one of New Zealand’s largest transport energy companies, we have a commitment to delivering safe, secure, and reliable transport energy – with the opportunity to deliver new journeys, with new energy solutions in a changing world.
We are proud to be the Kiwi contingent in the Ampol Group, an independent Trans-Tasman energy company, with trading offices across the globe, which are united behind our shared purpose. While many of the challenges and opportunities we face go beyond national boundaries, together we have the scale, influence, and capability to deliver for our customers, communities, and our people.
Job Description
Our trans-tasman Energy Solutions team is in the privileged position to play a meaningful role in what is the biggest challenge of our generation – climate change. We will achieve this by rapidly leveraging our privileged assets, brands, customer bases and expertise across geographies to accelerate the rollout of our alternative energy market offerings. We are committed to reducing our own emissions and to playing an important role in assisting our customers to navigate the energy transition by reducing their transport emissions.
We are bold and ambitious regional champions for the areas of the energy transition we commit to enable. We create innovative solutions to meet our customers’ needs, making their energy transition easy.
Are you a driven sales professional looking for a national role in a trans-tasman company, with a passion for helping businesses electrify their fleets?
We're looking for a Kaiwhakahaere Whakawhanake Pakihi Aotearoa Business Development Manager NZ to play a pivotal role in growing Z’s Energy Solutions offering across a national portfolio of customers. In this role, you’ll act as a trusted advisor to commercial customers as they navigate their energy transition, working alongside them to identify transition pathways and deliver tailored charging solutions — across their workplaces, the Z public charging network, and even in the homes of their employees.
Success in this role starts with a strong track record in B2B sales, paired with a passion for building relationships, identifying opportunities, and driving growth. You’ll need to be comfortable proactively generating leads and securing new-to-Z Energy opportunities, while also developing strong connections with existing customers to deeply understand their needs and deliver effective solutions. You'll bring a strategic mindset, a solution-focused approach, and the energy to make things happen. This is also a chance to play a key part in unlocking growth and shaping Z’s role in the future of business mobility.
This role can be based in either Te Whanganui-a-Tara Wellington, Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland or Ōtautahi Christchurch.
You will have the opportunity to
- Take ownership of originating, negotiating, and executing EV charging solutions for enterprise customers, from sale to ongoing management.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with developers, retailers, procurement officers, and key industry stakeholders to position Ampol as the preferred charging partner.
- Drive sales efficiency by improving lead generation, accelerating deal closure, and enhancing business development processes.
- Collaborate closely with internal teams and external hardware/software partners to secure deals and ensure seamless deployment.
- Stay across competitor offerings and market trends, providing insights to improve Ampol’s value proposition and inform marketing strategies
Qualifications
What you’ll bring to Z
You are a driven and strategic sales professional with a passion for innovation and sustainability. With a strong background in enterprise B2B sales, you’re skilled at building long-term relationships, leading cross-functional teams, and navigating complex commercial environments. You thrive in dynamic settings, adapt quickly to change, and bring a solutions-focused mindset to every challenge. Your understanding of emerging technologies—especially in the electric mobility space—positions you to help shape the future of transport in New Zealand.
- Proven experience in B2B sales within relevant sectors such as commercial property, sustainability, fleet, or electric mobility, with a strong track record of success. Existing experience in energy transition or charging solutions will be highly regarded.
- Confident relationship builder with a refined, consultative sales approach and the ability to influence senior stakeholders.
- Skilled at engaging internal teams and external partners to align with strategic objectives and drive collaborative outcomes.
- Demonstrated leadership capability, able to guide teams through task completion and project delivery with a clear focus on goals.
- Agile, self-motivated problem solver with strong negotiation skills and a solid understanding of EV charging technologies and industry trends (preferred but not essential).
And of course, you’ll be passionate about what matters to Z, embracing and living our values to help us deliver on our aspirations and broader commitment to Aotearoa New Zealand.
Don’t meet every single requirement? At Z we are dedicated to building a diverse, inclusive and authentic workplace, so if you’re excited about this role but your past experience doesn’t align perfectly with every qualification in the job description, we encourage you to apply anyway.
