As a Finance Business Partner at the Department of Conservation (DOC), you'll work at the intersection of finance, strategy, and conservation impact-driving informed decisions, influencing business direction, and ensuring public resources are used wisely and sustainably. You'll be a trusted strategic advisor, embedded in one of DOC's Business Groups, partnering closely with senior leaders to shape business plans, drive financial performance, and enable long-term sustainability across our unique and vital mahi. The position will:

  • Lead Financial Strategy & Planning: Influence and contribute to the development of strategic business plans and investment priorities, ensuring alignment with DOC's long-term goals
  • Deliver Insightful Advice: Provide high-quality financial and performance analysis to guide decision-making, assess commercial viability, and support business cases that deliver real-world impact
  • Drive Performance: Oversee OPEX and CAPEX budgeting, forecasting and reporting across business units, ensuring accuracy, transparency, and compliance with best practice and legislative requirements
  • Optimise Resources: Help the business achieve more with less, ensuring every dollar spent delivers value for money and contributes to our conservation outcomes
  • Build Capability: Lift financial literacy across the organisation through coaching, knowledge-sharing, and proactive engagement with stakeholders at all levels
  • Collaborate & Influence: Work cross-functionally with Strategic Finance, the Enterprise Portfolio Management Office (EPMO), and your fellow Finance Business Partners to align plans, improve systems, and elevate performance

Nga pukenga me nga wheako | Skills and experience

If you have some of following, we are keen to hear from you:

  • Chartered Accountant (CA ANZ or equivalent) with a minimum of 7 years' experience in a finance business partnering or strategic finance role
  • Proven ability to lead and influence strategic and operational planning, investment decision-making, and financial performance management within complex organisations
  • Expertise in financial modelling, forecasting, scenario analysis, and cost-benefit evaluations to inform robust business cases and investment planning
  • Strong understanding of public sector or large enterprise budgeting, internal controls, financial governance, and regulatory compliance
  • Demonstrated experience in post-investment evaluation and performance monitoring frameworks, with a focus on value for money and benefit realisation
  • High proficiency in interpreting and communicating complex financial insights to non-financial stakeholders, including senior leaders and governance groups
  • Track record of building financial capability across diverse teams through training, coaching, and cross-functional collaboration
  • Excellent interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence, negotiate, and maintain trust in a high-accountability environment

The salary range for this position is$113,712 - $161,659 with the starting salary of the successful applicant being based on their relevant skills and experience.
