About the role

The secondary care Kaupapa Māori General Health service - Te Ara Hauora is the Māori Health unit based at Dunedin Hospital. The team comprises of three Kaiawhina and is part of a wider Māori Health team 'Te Kāhui Māori' that includes Te Huinga Tahi based in Southland Hospital and the secondary care Kaupapa Māori Mental Health Services of Te Oranga Tonu Tanga and Te Korowai Hou Ora.

In this position you will be part of a team who are dedicated to helping and supporting Māori patients and their whānau during their inpatient stay in Dunedin Public Hospital.

About you

Essential:

  • Tertiary qualification in Māori studies or equivalent experience with Kaupapa Māori Systems
  • Knowledge of Tikanga Māori with proficiency/learning in Te Reo Māori and the Māori world view - whakapapa, whānau, hapu, iwi
  • Strong links and experience within Māori communities
  • Demonstrates skills in supporting cultural competencies
