This impactful role plays a critical part in our mission to prevent food waste and reduce
food insecurity.
As the Kai Hub General Manager, you'll be responsible for securing food donations, overseeing efficient distribution, collaborating with the Kai Hub team and trustees, and managing our network of dedicated volunteers. Your responsibilities will encompass the day-to-day management of Kai Hub, actively apply for funding opportunities, ensure its seamless and efficient operation, and actively contribute to our next stages of growth. Through your efforts, you would help us scale our capacity to operate sustainably to rescue and distribute kai throughout our community.

Who You'll Work With:
- The Kai Hub whānau (staff, volunteers, and the Board of Brustees)
- Food donors (grocery stores, distributors, etc.)
- Food recipient organizations (soup kitchens, food pantries, etc.)
- Community partners (local iwi, business', charities, non-profit organisations, and others who share our vision)
- Funders (From local and national government to business' and beyond)
- National Networks (Aotearoa Food Rescue Association (AFRA), New Zealand Food Network (NZFN), and others)
Your Responsibilities are:
- Ensuring that the Kai Hub is a reliable, sustainable, and safe operating environment for staff, volunteers, and visitors (with support from Board and other staff members). Comply with current HSE best practice onsite.
- Funding - maintaining and building funding relationships, reporting, and financial management , find and apply for suitable funding opportunities
- Upholding culture, systems, policies, and processes - making improvements where needed
- Management of staff including providing monthly KPI check ins and other support as needed. Recruitment and onboarding of staff if necessary.
- Monthly reporting to the Board of Trustees
- Event planning, coordination, and delivery
- Networking and relationship building
- Coordination of strategic planning and facilitation of input by staff and volunteers
- Being guided in decision-making by the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi
- Other tasks as needed & agreed
Key competencies:
- Proven ability to build and maintain strong relationships with donors, partners,
- and/or volunteers.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently.
- Strong analytical skills and a commitment to data collection and data-driven decision-making.
- Experience in applying for funding via grants, and ideally some experience in generating sustainable funding e.g. business sponsorships
- Awareness and respect for the bicultural community we live in and understand the importance of upholding Te Tiriti and Whanganuitanga

- You are confident using a range of technology and software (training can be provided)
- You have experience running events - whether that be professional meetings, educational sessions, or community hui.
Job Types: Part-time, Freelance, Temp to perm
Contract length: 12 months
Pay: $40.00 per hour
Expected hours: 15 – 20 per week
