Job Summary:
We are looking for an engaging and innovative Lecturer (Learning Facilitator, internal name) to deliver high-quality teaching in our Level 4 NZ Certificate in Arts and Design programme.This position is ideal for someone passionate about helping learners develop foundational skills in art, design, and digital media who is currently working in the industry and can provide teaching cover from time to time. The Lecturer (internally known as a Learning Facilitator) is an academic role involving teaching (on-campus and online), scholarship and learner support. Extra non-teaching responsibilities such as the management or leadership of subjects or courses may be allocated based on course needs and the incumbent’s individual skills, expertise and development. Expertise may include web design, interactive design, publication design, understanding Graphic Design, Motion Design, and Interactive Design techniques.
As part of the Design and Creative Technology Faculty, you will work with a diverse range of learners, supporting them to build confidence, technical skills, and creative thinking. You’ll prepare, deliver, facilitate, and assess engaging lessons—both on campus and online—ensuring students are supported to achieve their learning goals and assessment outcomes.
Principal Responsibilities:
Planning and delivering learning sessions that combine creative practice with digital tools.
Providing clear assessment guidance, feedback, and support to students.
Actively participating in course development, review, and continuous improvement.
Collaborating with colleagues to ensure teaching materials are current, relevant, and engaging.
Supporting the integration of industry-relevant practices into teaching.
Foster a collaborative and supportive learning environment, promoting active engagement and participation among learners.
Monitor the progress of learners, track their achievements, and provide feedback to both learners and the academic team to facilitate continuous improvement.
Stay updated with the curriculum and assessment requirements to ensure accurate and relevant guidance and information are provided.
Contribute to the overall enhancement of student achievement and successful completion of the programme.

Other Responsibilities:
Support the Academic and Student Support teams in onboarding new students ensuring all learners gain a sense of belonging to Media Design School
Engage and participate in DCF events, including Orientation, Lunch Events, End of Year Exhibitions, and the promotion of the DCF programme.
In addition:
Ensure all relevant Torrens policies, procedures and legislative compliance activities are followed with a particular emphasis on student well-being, health and safety.
Maintain appropriate conduct at all times including acting in line with Media Design School and Torrens’ values and principles.
Take reasonable care for your own health and safety as well as that of other people who may be affected by your conduct in the workplace.
Ensure that any hazardous conditions are eliminated or minimised and that near misses and injuries are reported immediately to your supervisor.
Reliable internet, computer with discipline specific software and appropriate workspace to perform the duties of the role.
You will bring or have:
Practical teaching experience in art, design, or digital media.
Proficient in Graphic Design &/ Web Design &/ Motion Design.
Confidence using digital design tools and learning management systems (e.g., Canvas or similar).
A learner-focused approach, with the ability to engage and inspire diverse student groups, including school leavers and those new to tertiary study.
Strong communication and organisational skills.
Participate in validation and moderation activities as requested.
Identify students who are at risk of failing a subject, whether for personal or academic reasons, and make the appropriate referral to the Programme Coordinator, Success Coach, or Language/Academic Skills support staff.
Monitor and record student attendance and participation daily.
Participate in course and assessment review procedures as required.
Review the course architecture and understand how subjects fit into the course structure.
This is a casual teaching role, with flexibility in delivery and a supportive, creative environment.
Extra responsibilities may include coordinating the quality delivery of academic subjects or programme, campus location coordination or leading specialist academic projects. Further contribution to the institution through industry/professional practice engagement and mentoring or leading other Academic staff may be indicated.
KEY SELECTION CRITERIA
Preferably a Masters Media Design or related fields (minimum of a relevant bachelor's qualification).
Experience in teaching adult learners.
At least three years of relevant industry experience.
An emerging track record of high-quality teaching in design or related field.
An emerging research track record.
A demonstrated commitment to work collaboratively in a team environment

A high service ethos towards students to support their learning.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
