About our group | Mo te roopu

We regulate activity across the climate, land ocean environments to enable New Zealand to sustainably utilise its natural resources, protect its environment and meet its international obligations.

We manage applications and decision-making processes and operate the register that allows carbon units to be traded. We ensure that obligations are met through our confident application of the legislative frameworks we operate under.

We do all of this effectively, efficiently, fairly and transparently, in order to be a trusted independent regulator.

About the role | Mo te tunga

  • Contribute to the development and implementation of business strategy and planning to deliver the teams core operational functions as well as ongoing continuous improvement
  • Lead and develop the ETS Operations team
  • Oversight of day-to-day ETS activities including in the New Zealand Emissions Trading Register (the Register)
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, working closely with the other agencies involved in the ETS system.
  • Working with our third-party vendor to operate the Register, including contract management
  • Ensure EPA continues to uphold the integrity of the ETS operations under the Climate Change Response Act

About you | Mohou ake

We are looking for someone with a range of skills and experience - if you have some or all of the below, we would love to hear from you.

  • Proven track record of leading and developing high-performing operational teams
  • Comfortable navigating through uncertainty and guiding a team to success
  • Experience working for a regulatory agency in the NZ Public Service beneficial
  • Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to effectively interact with stakeholders at all levels
  • Experience helping teams improve processes and creating a continuous improvement culture
  • Minimum of five years' experience in a management role.

Salary range

$131,955 - $197,933 per annum (midpoint $164,944).

This is the full salary range. Appointments are made within the range depending on skills and experience.
