We are seeking a strategic, people-focused leader to join our Commercial Operations Group as Manager Financial Systems.

This pivotal role is responsible for ensuring the effective performance and continuous improvement of the Ministry's financial systems, helping shape the way we manage and report on our resources.

As Manager Financial Systems, you will lead a team of specialist system analysts supporting our Financial Management Information Systems (FMIS) and related tools.

You'll oversee integrated systems that support Finance, Procurement and Social Commissioning functions, ensuring our finance systems are robust, aligned with business needs, and continuously improving.

This is a unique opportunity to make a system-wide impact in a large and complex organisation, leading through collaboration, innovation, and a commitment to delivering excellent end-to-end finance solutions.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading a high-performing finance systems team to support core financial, procurement, and commissioning platforms.
  • Owning and enhancing the FMIS product roadmap and governance processes.
  • Overseeing system development and ongoing maintenance to ensure performance, stability, and data accuracy.
  • Collaborating closely with internal stakeholders, vendors, and technical partners to support business needs and compliance.
  • Ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting tools.Maintaining strong internal controls, documentation, and disaster recovery readiness.
  • Providing leadership across risk management, system upgrades, user support, and financial product governance.

Ou pumanawatanga | What you bring:

We are looking for a qualified accounting professional with a strong background in financial systems leadership and a passion for delivering streamlined, effective financial solutions in a complex organisational environment.

You bring both strategic and technical capability, coupled with strong people leadership and stakeholder engagement skills.

Your ability to work across finance, technology, and business teams means you can confidently lead improvements to financial systems, processes, and reporting.

You're comfortable balancing user experience with compliance, and you take pride in delivering robust, future-focused financial infrastructure.


You will also bring:

  • A professional accounting qualification (e.g., ICANZ CA or equivalent).
  • Proven experience in leading and maintaining financial systems and ERP tools (Oracle Cloud preferred).
  • Strong working knowledge of budgeting, forecasting, and end-to-end financial processes.
  • In-depth understanding of financial reporting standards and compliance in a government or large organisational context.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and the ability to build effective partnerships across business and IT.
  • Proven leadership experience with the ability to grow and support a high-performing team.

Salary range: $141,109 - $175,603.
