Tenei turanga - About the Role:

An opportunity has arisen for a six-month Ministerial Services Advisor within the Office of the Deputy Secretary of MBIE's Te Whakatairanga Service Delivery group (TWSD). You will gain in-depth exposure to a wide range of critical functions and service delivery subject matters, work with stakeholders across the group and MBIE, with the Ministers' offices and externally.



Your core responsibilities will include providing advice and drafting replies to a range of ministerial products that will include DOIAs, MOIAs, Ministerial Correspondence, Privacy Requests, Ombudsman requests and Written Parliamentary Questions. Your role would include collaborating with branches across TWSD and wider MBIE business groups to source information and advice and contributing to team processes to ensure consistent and quality service delivery.



We proactively support development through on-the-job learning, training courses, and development opportunities.

Our purpose is to work with business, employees and consumers to ensure that New Zealand has fair markets that thrive. TWSD provide critical functions and services that support businesses, employees and consumers to operate successfully in the marketplace.


This includes the delivery of information, advisory, dispute resolution, regulatory and enforcement services for most of the regulatory systems in MBIE.

  • Experience leading and writing responses to OIAs, Privacy Act requests, Ministerial Correspondence, WPQs and/or responding to Ombudsman requests
  • Knowledge and understanding of relevant legislation, rules and regulations
  • Political acumen and sound knowledge of Parliamentary and government structures and processes
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with an eye for detail and a high level of accuracy
  • A demonstrated ability to form robust professional working relationships, which includes collaboration and co-operation with internal and external stakeholders
  • Can-do attitude and a high level of initiative, sound judgement and discretion
  • The ability to work well under pressure, and to tight timeframes when needed
  • Knowledge and understanding of the ISO9001:2015 quality management system
  • Must have the legal right to live and work in New Zealand
