About the Role - Korero mo te Turanga
Shape MPI's asset management (AM) approach and future in a nationally significant role with real influence and autonomy.
You'll lead the design and delivery of our asset management system and maturity pathway from the ground up.
Our property & assets includes offices, laboratories, plant, and equipment, and even kennels. We have properties located across the country from Kaitaia to Invercargill.
You will work closely with the National and Regional Facilities Managers (FM) and external technical specialists to provide strategic and operational direction. This ensures effective planning, delivery, and maintenance of sustainable and fit for purpose assets. As the technical authority, you will provide end-to-end accountability including continuous improvement of the through-life stewardship of assets from business case to commissioning, maintenance, and renewal.
This is a rare opportunity to source, design, and implement AM systems across all of MPI's business units with a strong emphasis on directly supporting New Zealand's biosecurity mission.
You love to:
- use your extensive experience as an asset management practitioner to represent the Property & Assets directorate in all MPI building and infrastructure projects. This includes the proposed $400m+ Plant Health and Environment Capability (PHEC) facility which is currently seeking implementation business case approval.
- develop and implement asset plans, budgets, and systems
- guide AM and FM strategies to align with ISO 55001 standards
- provide asset data, risk, and performance insights to governance and leadership forums
- know that your work directly impacts New Zealand in a positive way
Travel will be required approximately four to six times per year with advance warning.

- showcase your proven financial management skills and commercial acumen
- manage your risk and issue management strategies and processes

Importantly, you will have a working knowledge of industry recognised AM standards and frameworks, relevant property legislation, including the latest Building Act, Resource Management Act, and Health and Safety at Work Acts.
You must have a current full New Zealand driver licence (not temporary, learner, or provisional) or equivalent full foreign drivers licence, and any endorsements required for the type of driving you'll be doing.
