Company Description
Te Tākinatanga | Our Story
At Contact, we’re not just powering homes and businesses - we’re helping power a better future for Aotearoa. As we move boldly into the next phase of our Contact26 strategy, technology is at the heart of how we’ll get there. That’s where you come in.
We’re looking for a Network Engineer who’s keen to roll up their sleeves and help keep the lights on – literally. This is your chance to join a team that’s central to the smooth running of our infrastructure, supporting everything from cloud platforms to firewalls and fibre. You’ll be part of a crew that’s collaborative, curious, and always up for a challenge.
This is a 6-month fixed term role, based in Auckland or Wellington, and offers flexible working. You’ll be joining the Security & Infrastructure team, working alongside our network service provider and other partners to oversee, guide and improve our network operations – not necessarily on the tools, but definitely in the thick of it.

- Overseeing provisioning, installation, and upgrades of data and voice communication networks.
- Diagnosing and troubleshooting network & firewall issues and recommending performance improvements.
- Reviewing and endorsing vendor work, especially our network service provider’s, to ensure it meets Contact’s standards.
- Mentoring others in networking & security and helping shape the future of our infrastructure.
- Potentially travelling occasionally to generation sites to support urgent faults or clean-up work.

What makes you a great fit
You’re a team player who thrives on variety and problem-solving. You’re not afraid to jump from a project into a fault fix, and you enjoy using your brainpower to figure things out. You’re curious about how Contact operates and want to understand the bigger picture. You’re someone who can manage competing priorities, set clear expectations, and build strong relationships across the business.

This is a 6-month fixed term contract backfilling one of our Network Engineers while he focuses on a specific project. Being based in Auckland or Wellington would be ideal for ease of access to site, although we can consider applications from elsewhere in Aotearoa provided you’re happy to work remotely and able to travel to site for networking activities.
Why you’ll love it here
- Flexible working and a supportive team culture.
- A role that’s more about oversight and governance than hands-on fixes – perfect if you’ve stepped off the tools but still want to stay close to the action.
- The chance to work on meaningful projects that impact how New Zealand is powered.
- We are growing and offer superb learning and development opportunities along with a bunch of other perks like a ‘Good to be Home’ payment toward your home set up & wellbeing, discounts on Contact Energy products, and more.
