Mō tēnei tūranga | About the opportunity
Are you passionate about agriculture and skilled in maintaining and managing on farm infrastructure and assets? We’re looking for a hands on, proactive and practical On Farm Assets Technician to join our team and help ensure our on farm assets run smoothly and efficiently for our farmer shareholders. Your time will be spent visiting our farmers and carrying out the removal, installation and preventative repairs and maintenance of our On-Farm Assets. There is also a strong focus on milk collection compliance, reporting and building positive relationships with all stakeholders. Reporting to our Regional On Farm Asset Specialist, you will be based at our Darfield site, servicing the wider Canterbury region, which will require a large amount of travel.
Key responsibilities include:
- Undertake day-to-day on farm activities
- Installation, repair and maintenance, removal of farm mikk vats and associated Fonterra owned assets on farm
- Input of farm asset data; maintaining accurate records of asset conditions and maintenance schedules
- Provide technical advice and assistance to suppliers
- Respond to complaints and escalate issues as appropriate within guidelines
- Support capital improvement projects and seasonal readiness tasks
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards
Extensive training will be provided in all aspects of the role with emphasis on Health & Safety, Working at Heights & Confined Spaces, Team Engagement, Asset Care & Preventative Maintenance.
Usual hours of work are Monday – Friday (7.30am – 4.30pm) and there will be an element of travel away from home associated with the role.

You will be renowned as a great communicator who easily develops sound relationships with a diverse group of people. You will have excellent time management and planning skills and will enjoy the challenge and variety this role affords. Your natural problem solving, and analytical mindset will help you to thrive in this position.
Whilst a background in maintenance, a basic mechanical aptitude and dairy industry experience would be beneficial, having the right people skills and attitude will be essential to your success.
You will also need a clean Class 4 license, or be keen to work towards it, be a competent user of Microsoft Office suite and be physically fit.
