About us

Genesis owns and operates a portfolio of Renewable and Thermal generation assets across New Zealand; the spread of locations and fuel types in our portfolio gives us significant operating flexibility. The Tongariro Power Scheme is a highly productive Hydro Power Scheme thanks to its wide catchment area and large storage capacity to feed our 3 Generating Plants Mangaio, Rangipo and Tokaanu.

About the Role

We've got a great opportunity to join us as an Operator Maintainer - Operations at Tokaanu Power Station, part of the Tongariro Power Scheme, located at the southern end of Lake Taupo. The scheme is unique among other New Zealand Hydro Power Schemes given the size of the catchment area and the numerous intakes, aqueducts, tunnels and canals spread across a wide area in the central north island.

Reporting to the Tongariro Site Manager, you will operate and maintain generation and auxiliary plant in alignment with Genesis Energy's Asset Management Plan and to achieve business KPI's.

Responsibilities:

  • Direct accountability for ensuring that all operations related documentation and records up to date and fit for purpose, including: procedures, PM work orders, job plans, drawings, plant modifications and technical specifications
  • Overview work activities to ensure safety, quality, and efficient use of resources
  • Support implementation of the Asset Management Plan through undertaking assigned, preventative and defect operational and maintenance tasks and management of work packages
  • Actively identify and rectify areas of improvement to maximise scheme overall efficiency
  • Take scheme HMI (Human Machine Interface) control of plant and equipment when required
  • Maintain, monitor, observe and report plant condition and remedy defects.

About You

The role will require a blend of quick thinking and forward planning, combined with a deep appreciation for the unique nature of the scheme and its impact on the local community and environment. Ideally you will have previous experience in hydro power generation, the electricity distribution industry or industrial operations.

We also love to hear from candidates with:

  • Technical training in electrical, mechanical or technical systems is an asset
  • Ideally hold a National Certificate in Electrical Supply (Hydro Operator) Level 4
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and a knack for solving problems
  • Experience working in a heavy rotating industry
  • A full-clean Drivers Licence

You will be computer literate and ideally live within reasonable proximity of the power scheme. You will be flexible with availability to work out-side normal working hours and on the call-out roster. We are wanting someone that is adaptable, and keen to learn. To fit in with the team, you will be friendly, self-directed and a team player.
