Mō te tūnga | About the role
The purpose of the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) group is to work in partnership with the greater NZ Police organisation to provide digital technology and communications solutions that support excellence in policing and service delivery and enable NZ Police’s strategic ambitions.
With a primary hub in Porirua, Wellington and a presence throughout the country, ICT delivers new and enhanced solutions directly and through specialist vendor partnerships. We provide expert advice on how technology can be leveraged to support NZ Police strategies and turn concepts into reality through collaborative development.
The Practice Lead Testing, reporting to the Practice Manager Testing, leads and supports a team of Test Analyst professionals to deliver excellent testing services across ICT product teams. Responsibilities include resource assignments, team training and development, continuously improving Centre of Expertise (CoE) frameworks, standards, processes and toolsets, and aligning and integrating with other CoE teams.
The Practice Lead also operates as the primary people leader for those members of the Testing CoE, providing pastoral care, technical capability development, performance feedback, mentoring, overseeing workloads, and ensuring delivery requirements are met within their assigned product teams.
The Practice Lead works in partnership with Product Managers and Product Owners, ensuring they are being provided with both the capacity and capability they require to meet the requirements of their product roadmaps.
Key Accountabilities:
Leads, mentors, and monitors the performance of the team, ensuring appropriate career development and training opportunities are available.
Assigns appropriate resource with sufficient expertise to meet the business requirements in respect to testing services and outcomes
Ensures the Test Practice continues to evolve to follow industry best practice.

Team leadership experience with the ability to provide technical professionals with guidance, mentoring, coaching and support to enable their success.
Experience in test planning, execution, risk-based testing and test management.
Experience in, or a strong understanding of, Agile delivery methods.
Ability to communicate effectively with senior leaders within the organisation and key stakeholders.
Effective collaboration skills coupled with critical thinking and sound judgement.
Strong attention to detail for reviewing purposes.
Strong relationship management skills with the ability to quickly build trust and maintain strong positive connections.
Strong communication skills to present information in a clear and concise manner.
