ICT Systems Administrator

We are looking for a skilled Systems Administrator to join our IT team. The successful candidate will have a passion for technology, a great attitude, and a high level of technical expertise. They will also offer their technical expertise to projects to ensure that the College’s network systems meet business requirements and operate in a secure, reliable, and efficient manner.

With a national and international reputation for excellence, Scots College is a world-class independent school with a strong Presbyterian Heritage. It is a fully co-education, IB World School in the eastern suburbs of Wellington, New Zealand, and comprises three schools in one: Junior (Years 1-6), Middle (Years 7-10), and Senior (Years 11-13). We provide our students with an excellent and holistic education within a vibrant learning environment with the aim of allowing them to contribute as global citizens who think creatively, reason critically, communicate effectively, and develop the necessary skills to learn. For life.

The needs of the College are growing rapidly, and as a result, we are seeking a switched-on individual to join our ICT team. The Systems Administrator will be a key player in ensuring an effective, efficient, and reliable ICT infrastructure is maintained, and all users of ICT in the College are adequately supported. While we do have the ability to call on external expertise, the new incumbent will help to drive all installations, upgrades, maintenance requirements, and networks. This is a constantly evolving role and they will also be expected to provide input into new initiatives – from conception to reality. They will need to be prepared to roll up their sleeves and get amongst the most basic of ICT tasks in order to best support College users.

Person profile:
Ideally, you will be able to demonstrate:

  • strong technical skills and experience, including an excellent understanding of networks, LANs, hardware, and Enterprise IT infrastructure
  • Proven experience administering Microsoft 365, including Exchange Online, SharePoint, Teams, and OneDrive, with a focus on security, compliance, and identity management through Entra ID and Microsoft Purview
  • Solid understanding of Fortinet firewalls, including configuration, monitoring, and threat management
  • confident interpersonal and excellent organisational skills
  • a proactive, innovative yet pragmatic approach to technology and its application
  • a willingness to roll up your sleeves and do whatever needs to be done
  • experience working effectively with a number of projects simultaneously
  • adaptable to ever changing situations
  • an appropriate qualification and/or experience in the field

Previous experience in an educational setting would also be beneficial.

To apply for this position, applicants must already be residing in New Zealand and have the right to work here.
