About the Role
As the Principal Advisor – Business Case Development, you will take the lead on developing robust, evidence based business cases for large scale, high-risk investments. These documents will inform decision making at the highest levels of government, including the Health NZ Board, Ministers, and Cabinet. You'll be responsible for analysing complex challenges and opportunities, and presenting clear, well supported recommendations that drive multi million dollar investment decisions.
In addition to your strategic advisory responsibilities, you'll provide leadership and coaching to both internal team members and regional staff, supporting the development of smaller scale investment proposals.
About the Team/Service/ Location
The IIG team focus on delivering high-impact infrastructure investments that support the transformation of New Zealand's health system. Giving support, oversight and assurance across projects and programmes, they understand that safe, fit for purpose health facilities, sites and equipment are essential for a well-functioning health system that improves the health of all New Zealanders.
About you
You're a strategic thinker and a natural leader, with the ability to guide and coach both team members and regional staff. You bring a strong analytical mindset and can develop well evidenced business cases that support high level investment decisions across Health NZ, including at Board, Ministerial, and Cabinet levels.
You thrive in complex environments and are confident making decisions even when the full picture isn't available. You have the ability to break down large, ambiguous problems and identify practical solutions. You're also skilled at identifying risks and developing effective mitigation strategies.
Your communication style is clear and adaptable, enabling you to build strong relationships and influence stakeholders at all levels, both internally and externally.
You will bring:
- Proven leadership and coaching experience, including supporting regional teams.
- Experience providing high-quality advice and assurance to senior decision-makers, including Boards, Ministers, and Cabinet.
- Ability to break down complex, multi-faceted problems and develop practical solutions.
- Confidence in making decisions with incomplete information and navigating ambiguity.
- Skilled in identifying risks and developing effective mitigation strategies.
- Tertiary qualification in a relevant field and/or equivalent professional experience.
- Familiarity with the Better Business Case model and Treasury Investment Management System (preferred).
- Experience working in multicultural and diverse environments, with a strong understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and Pae Ora (Healthy Futures) Act 2022
