About the Role
We have the opportunity available to join the National Public Health Service (NPHS) Promotion Directorate as a Principal Advisor. This is a fixed term, full-time role.
The Principal Advisor - Social Marketing is a key role supporting the planning, development, delivery of health promotion initiatives. The role provides valued specialist advice, subject matter expertise, leadership and communications support for campaigns of national significance. This role has a specific focus on methamphetamine demand reduction.
A critical element of the role is to ensure an integrated communications and marketing approach that includes key stakeholders. Experience delivering campaigns that are appropriate for priority health promotion populations is key.
About the Team/Service/ Location
The NPHS within Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora, work towards Pae Ora (healthy futures) for all by engaging with the wider determinants that impact people's health, focusing on oranga/wellbeing, prevention, protection, and population-level intervention. We are connected across boundaries to deliver public health services that are nationally planned, regionally delivered and locally tailored.
About you
As a Principal Advisor, you are confident working in a fast-paced environment and getting ‘stuck in' with a range of work. You will have a strong eye for detail and quality, the ability to quickly understand new information, manage a broad range of work, write for a broad range of audiences, prioritise well and keep key players informed. You will be a natural problem solver, have good political nous and understand the healthcare ecosystem. Due to the wide-ranging nature of the work in this role, a varied background is welcome.
- A relevant tertiary qualification, preferably in a related area (marketing, social marketing, communications, PR) or relevant workforce experience
- Experience in implementing Te Tiriti o Waitangi in action
- At least eight years demonstrated and successful experience in a senior in social marketing role with experience implementing integrated marketing and communications approaches, including stakeholders
- Experience providing advice to Ministers and senior officials, developing internal and sector communications as needed
- Specialist understanding of at least one of the following public health issues: immunisations, alcohol harm minimisation, methamphetamine harm reduction
- Proven experience overseeing work programmes that deliver effective marketing approaches for Māori and Pasifika, tangata whaikaha audiences
- A high level of understanding, skill and experience in the field of social marketing and behaviour change
