About the role | Mo te tunga

As a Probation Officer, you'll work closely with offenders to make sure they're meeting the conditions of their sentence or order. You'll assess people and their situations to manage risk, set and maintain boundaries and motivate offenders to make positive changes.

The Probation Officer role is about being a great role model and looking for opportunities to engage with people in a positive way, you have the ability to not only change the lives of whaanau but also influence change through your interactions.

You must work with high integrity and will demonstrate the Departmental and Kaupapa Maori values within your work: Wairua, Whanau, Manaaki, Kaitiaki and Rangatira.

You'll be someone who relates to people from all different backgrounds and cultures - you'll need resilience, common sense and maturity. You will also have a positive attitude and be motivated to make a difference. You will also be a strong administrator, who is highly organised and who can meet deadlines.

About you | Mou

To be successful in this role you will need to be;

  • A strong communicator
  • Computer literate and have strong written skills
  • Full clean New Zealand Driver Licence
  • Legal right to work in New Zealand without restriction for a minimum of 24 months
  • Relevant skills and experience working with a diverse group of people
  • A passion for helping others and being a positive role model

You'll have the chance to connect with people, build strong relationships and do something which really makes a difference and improves public safety.

This role is based in Hamilton.

Please note that if you are currently a Probation Officer wishing to move to a different district then you need to submit a transfer request.

Probation Officers,

  • AARAHI - supervise people
  • MANAAKI - help people engage in their rehabilitation programme and attend appointments.
  • WHAKAKIPAKIPA - motivate and inspire people to make positive changes
  • HAAPAI - monitor and manage health, safety and behaviours.
  • MAHITAHI - work closely with whaanau and other key stakeholders

Utu a-tau | Salary

The mid point of the salary range is $67,648 and the full range (85%-120%) is $64,359 - $81,909. Appointment and remuneration will reflect skills and experience relevant to the role.
