Starting a career in psychology can be challenging, but IDEA Services offers a unique opportunity to gain supervised experience in forensic rehabilitation or residential support. Join us for a 12-month placement where you'll develop your clinical skills and make a meaningful impact in the lives of individuals with complex needs.


Mō te tūnga | About the role

IDEA Services provides residential services for people with intellectual disabilities who require a level of care and want to live in a supportive community. Our services support people with intellectual disabilities to gain independence, be supported in making their own choices, be valued members of their community, and live a fulfilling life.

You'll provide clinical support to individuals with intellectual disabilities, fostering community integration and independence. Over the course of this 12-month fixed-term contract, you will gain valuable experience working in the disability sector, supporting adults with intellectual disabilities from a variety of backgrounds and experiences. In this role, you'll provide high-quality clinical support, helping clients lead fulfilling lives within a supportive residential setting.

This will include:

  • Assessing clients (under clinical supervision / managerial discretion) to identify the client's risks, needs and goals.
  • Developing and implementing focused pieces of work to address specific behaviours / support needs as directed.
  • Monitoring and evaluating these interventions to ensure they are effectively meeting clients' goals and promoting their well-being.

Ngā pūmanawatanga ōu | What you will bring

  • Eligible for Registration (Intern) in a relevant scope of practice with the New Zealand Psychology Board. Candidates with a completed Masters Degree in Psychology may also be considered.
  • An interest in working in the Health and Disability sector. Previous experience working in Health and Disability would be a bonus
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to adapt to your audience
  • Cultural competence and the ability to understand and apply the principles of Te Tirirti o Waitangi
  • Ability to work in an environment with diverse individuals, being open-minded and non-judgmental in your approach
  • Have a full NZ drivers' licence
