We have a fixed-term Accountancy internship available to offer as part of our 2025/2026 Summer Intern Programme. The internship will be from Monday 17 November 2025 to Friday 6th February 2026. During your fixed term employment you will be paid the current living wage.
The opportunity
Our summer internship programme is an opportunity for students who are looking to do real work that will support our community. We will provide a great learning environment where you will get to work on tasks that will help you in your personal and professional development.
During your internship no two days will be the same, and you will be exposed to a variety of work programmes and have the opportunity to see large projects and operational facilities that ensure the Wellington community receives safe, reliable and compliant water services.
This internship will give you experience supporting a range of different financial processes, forecasts and policies that are utilised for decision making and management across our wider organisation to deliver large and complex projects, plan for council investment cycles and ensure good business practices regarding financial process is followed. You will be supported during your time by qualified analysts, accountants and support teams, your duties may include:
- Reviewing and ensuring financial policies are up to date and followed.
- Tracking improvements and recording financial controls to support continuity within work programmes.
- Provide support to financial accounting, analytical reporting and operational finance teams.
Internships are available for students studying in New Zealand towards:
- Bachelor of Accountancy
- Bachelor Business Management – Majoring in Accounting
- A Relevant Management Masters or Bachelor Degree
You will be required to be working towards an NCEA recognised postgraduate qualification at Level 7 or higher, such as a Bachelor or Masters Degree in a relevant financial field.

Wellington Water is the professional water services provider across Greater Wellington and South Wairarapa. Our job is to provide safe and healthy drinking water, collect and treat wastewater, and ensure the stormwater network is well managed.
