Napier City Council is seeking a skilled and motivated SCADA Engineer to support the design, maintenance, and evolution of our SCADA systems across water, wastewater, and stormwater networks. This role plays a key part in ensuring secure, reliable, and scalable infrastructure that supports operational efficiency, regulatory compliance, and long-term asset management.
As a SCADA Engineer, you’ll collaborate with internal teams and external partners to deliver reliable, high-quality data that drives smarter decisions across our waters network. You’ll play a key role in integrating new sensor technologies, enhancing system visibility, and supporting both capital and operational projects. Your technical expertise will shape how our control systems are operated and understood - through improved interfaces, actionable reporting, and a clearer view of how each component contributes to overall network performance. With a strong focus on safety, resilience, and continuous improvement, you’ll help develop standards and procedures that build internal capability and future-proof our infrastructure.
We’re looking for someone with a relevant engineering degree, experience in electrical instrumentation and controls, SCADA systems and interface design, and strong programming and problem-solving skills. He kōrero mōhou - About You
- Degree in Electrical, Electronic, Controls, or Computer Systems Engineering.
- 2–3 years’ experience working with SCADA systems, databases, and interface design.
- Strong programming skills (e.g. VBA, Python) and solid computer literacy.
- Clear communicator with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Full, clean driver’s licence.

This is a permanent, fulltime opportunity working 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday in Napier CBD.
Remuneration for this role is between $94,000-$122,000 per annum (including KiwiSaver), depending on your skills and experience.
