Senior Advisor - Overseas Investment, Regulatory Practice and Delivery

This is a great opportunity to be at the heart of managing risks to New Zealand's most sensitive assets.
The core function of this role will be leading assessments on the impact to New Zealand's national interest from specific overseas investment transactions. Senior Advisors in our team use strong critical analysis and sound judgement to determine applications against the tests of the Overseas Investment Act 2005.
Senior Advisors are also responsible for assessing and providing advice on overseas investment risk, this can include national interest, national security, or public order risk. Doing this requires engagement with a range of other NZ government agencies and an understanding of the broader strategic and commercial environment.
You will demonstrate and promote good regulatory practice across the New Zealand Government, using your skills, knowledge, and judgement to lift service delivery. Your work improves performance, builds capability, and strengthens our collective impact-making a tangible difference every day. You will be required to clearly present your analysis and recommendations to decision-makers (including Ministers), applicants, and the wider public.

- Expertise in Regulatory Practice: Applies deep understanding of regulatory frameworks, internal policies, and procedures to deliver high-quality, consistent outcomes.
- Process and Framework Design: Contributes to the design and improvement of internal processes, guidance, and frameworks to enhance regulatory effectiveness.
- Sound, Risk-Based Judgement: Makes decisions and recommendations on complex matters using consistent and well-tested analytical skills to achieve consistent regulatory outcomes.
- Collaborative and Inclusive Risk Based Approach: Puts New Zealand at the centre of decision-making, incorporating diverse perspectives including those across Government, various impacted communities, Maori, iwi, and other subject matter experts where appropriate.
- Mentorship and Capability Building: Supports colleagues through coaching, mentoring, and peer review, fostering growth and encouraging diverse approaches
- A relevant tertiary degree or prior training in a relevant field. Experience in intelligence analysis and/or commercial/trust law, with a desire to learn aspects of the other field

The expected appointing range for this role is $105,000 - $125,000 dependant on relevant skills and experience.
