About the Role
The Senior Advisor for Hauora Māori Practice & Improvement is responsible for driving system-level improvements that align with strategic goals, with a focus on enhancing care coordination and service delivery. This role spans several strategic portfolios, including health services planning, strengthening the Māori workforce through te reo me ōna tikanga, and promoting workforce wellbeing. It also supports the integration of Oranga Whānau within quality and safety systems, processes, and practices, while contributing to the development and application of Hauora Māori fundamentals.
About the Team/Service
As the Hauora Māori Service of Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora (Health NZ) our core role is to ensure New Zealanders have better and more timely access to health care. The devolution of resources and decision making to the regions ensures those closest to service users and whānau are involved in decisions on how healthcare is delivered. We are committed to ensuring our operating model is responsive to the needs of Māori.
About you
You bring extensive experience in strategic advisory roles with a strong grounding in Hauora Māori approaches and application of Te Tiriti o Waitangi in service design and delivery. You have a proven track record in systems improvement and workforce planning, particularly in strengthening Māori capability and wellbeing. Strong relationship skills and experience leading cross-sector initiatives, contributing to policy, and driving system improvement are essential.
You will have:
- Experience in advisory or a related field with at least 5-7 years of experience in a similar role within a large organisation
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to draft key governance documents and materials
- Knowledge and practical experience in applying Mātauranga Māori and Kaupapa Māori approaches
- Proven analytical skills and problem-solving skills, with experience in the health sector considered an advantage
