About this role | Mō tēnei tūranga
We’re looking for a motivated and capable senior social media practitioner to join our close-knit, hardworking and supportive team.
As Senior Advisor Social Media, you’ll bring strategic thinking, creative flair and sound judgement to a role that’s central to how we connect with our audiences. You’ll work across the Ministry to provide expert advice and hands-on support, helping teams use social media to inform, engage and build trust.
The Senior Advisor, Social Media will:
- create and publish engaging content that’s tailored to each channel and audience, including Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and TikTok
- work closely with teams across the Ministry to plan and deliver social media activity that supports their work and reflects our shared goals
- monitor our social media communities and the wider online environment, responding to comments and messages, encouraging positive engagement, identifying emerging conversations, and escalating issues
- analyse performance and generate insights to help us improve our content and engagement strategies
- make sure our channels and practices meet all relevant policies, procedures and requirements.
Salary range: $99,496 to $120,690 + 3% KiwiSaver. The successful candidate will be appointed at a salary which reflects individual skills and experience.

You’ll be an experienced social media professional who enjoys creating content and building communities, confidently tailoring content to different audiences and platforms, and working collaboratively with others to achieve the best results.
You will bring experience in:
- creating and delivering engaging social media content — including writing, graphics, images and video — and working with others to shape content that meets both audience and business needs
- managing social media communities and encouraging positive, respectful engagement
- building strong working relationships quickly and effectively
- using analytics to track performance, generate insights and make data-informed decisions
- managing multiple tasks and deadlines at the same time
- managing social media during high-risk or crisis situations
- using tools such as Meta Business Suite and Sprout Social to manage and analyse social media activity.
You will also have:
- a proactive approach to content planning and delivery
- strong writing skills
- a keen eye for detail and a commitment to quality
- excellent organisational skills
- the ability to work independently and as part of a team
- a commitment to continuous improvement and staying up to date with trends and best practice
- the ability and willingness to uphold the Public Service Standards of Integrity and Conduct.
About our group and team | Mātau rōpū ake
This role is in the Content and Channels team in Te Pou Rangatōpū | Corporate group.
Content and Channels ensure the Ministry’s social media communities, Education Gazette publication, and Te Pou Rangatopu websites effectively meet the needs of the Ministry and our audiences. As the kaitiakitanga | guardians of these channels, we maintain their high quality by offering strategic, audience-focused advice and services.
