About us
Te Tari Pūreke is Aotearoa New Zealand’s Firearms Regulator. Our Vision is to ensure the possession and use of firearms in Aotearoa is the safest in the world.
To achieve this, Te Tari Pūreke delivers four core functions: effectively implementing the firearms licensing systems; managing the Firearms Registry; educating people to enable compliance with their legislative responsibilities; and promoting the safe possession and use of legitimate firearms.
We are committed to fostering a culture of safe and responsible firearms use, gun ownership and awareness by working collaboratively with the firearms community, our stakeholders, and fellow agencies.
About the Arms Transformation Programme
The ATP plays an important role in transforming the way firearms and licence holders are regulated in NZ. We started the programme following the 15 March 2019 Christchurch Masjidain attack that tragically killed 51 people in NZ.
Since then, we’ve been setting ourselves up for success to achieve our vision - that the possession and use of firearms in Aotearoa is the safest in the world.
As we look ahead to new challenges based around the emerging priorities from government and expectations from our investors (senior leaders and Ministers) we are resetting the team for future delivery.
About the role
The Senior PMO Lead provides support to the Arms Transformation Programme to ensure successful outcomes from workstreams. This critical role plays a large part in the coordination and cohesion across the programme as they work with colleagues to create across-programme reporting, monitoring and documentation and high-quality secretariat services to governance groups.
Critical to this role is effective leadership. We want someone who can think strategically, provide clear direction and who can get the most out of their team, so everyone has the support, skills and tools and confidence to do their best work, every day.
Key Deliverables:
Provide independent monitoring, evaluation and reporting on the Arms Transformation Programme workstreams including establishing reporting requirements, documentation configuration and consolidating workstream and programme reports for distribution to key stakeholders.
Ensure that Te Tari Pūreke/NZ Police project methodology and associated project management forms, tools, standards, and guidelines incorporate industry best practice, government standards and guidelines, and lessons learned from previous project experiences.
Regularly review workstreams to determine which are meeting their goals and which may need more support and/or resources.
Lead the coordination and secretariat services for any governance group assigned to you (for example, the Firearms Safety Group – FSG) including confirming the agenda, collating papers, including the QA of these papers, and distribution of meeting packs prior to the meeting.
For any assigned governance group, ensure Terms of Reference and membership documentation is kept up to date.
Complete health checks, provide feedback to the Director – Business Transformation, Senior Responsible Owner, Sponsor and Steering Committee; and work with Senior Programme/Project Managers to resolve any potential problems.
Organise arrangements for Independent Quality Assurance (IQA) and Gateway Review/s.
Support the management and tracking of the Programme’s OPEX and CAPEX budgets and if necessary, the reporting of timesheet records (should this be required).
Special requirements
At least 5 years’ experience leading Programme Management Office services at a senior level in a high-profile public sector environment.
An ability to solve problems and lead sound decision-making.
Experience in managing team resources and administrative services relating to managing resources (time, people, budgets).
