Social work in Schools (SWIS) is delivered in selected school settings - primary, intermediate. This position will focus on working with Kura Kaupapa Māori, primarily with children and their whanau, in years one to eight (ages 5 -12), based on need in the school community. The service goals are to improve safety, wellbeing and educational outcomes.
We are looking for a qualified Social Worker to:
- Value diversity, partnership, professional supervision and theories
- Be committed to biculturalism and the promise of equity laid down by Te Tiriti o Waitangi
- Demonstrate ability to deeply engage and walk alongside and help tamariki and whānau
- Understand therapeutic social work, systems theory and the impacts of relational trauma
- Pay attention to safety, wellbeing, child development and the importance of healthy attachment
- Value Te Ao Māori
- Think and reflect deeply about their practice
- Be fully registered or working towards this
The successful social worker must have:
- Proficiency in operating in a te ao Māori space, in a full emersion setting.
- A great understanding of te reo, or at the minimum be actively learning te reo.
- Great understanding of Tikanga.
- A willingness to work in a whanau-centred way
- Existing, collaborative realtionships across whanau, hapu, iwi
