We are seeking a motivated and dedicated Maintenance Superintendent to join our Steelserv team, providing specialist transport, maintenance, and processing services across New Zealand Steel’s range of requirements and operations.
About the role:
Key accountabilities of this position is to:
Ensure the effective and efficient delivery of Maintenance Services to plants in a manner that consistently meets or exceeds the customer expectations and satisfies all cost, timeliness, quality safety, and environmental requirements.
- Provide an agile and customer-focused maintenance service in the areas of breakdown, rebuild and preventative maintenance programs to minimise equipment failure.
- Develop, implement and lead strategic maintenance & inventory management strategies
- Provide leadership, direction, development, coaching and support to the Steelserv Maintenance requirements
- Drive a Zero Harm culture.
- Develop, design and implement strategic business opportunities for Steelserv Maintenance Services
- Act collaboratively across site teams to achieve best outcomes for the business
- Develop and enhance a culture of continuous improvement within Steelserv Maintenance Services.
- Uphold, support and improve upon the performance of business processes aligned to company policies and procedures
The Maintenance Superintendent is a key role supporting the safe delivery of a range of specialized transportation and product solutions across the company.
This role will have a focus on providing a service that is in line with our business vision, strategy and plan. Key to your success will be your strong organizational skills and high degree of drive and initiative. This role works closely with all our teams at NZ Steel, so you need to demonstrate strong interpersonal skills.

This is a day position working Monday to Friday however, applicants should be aware that some flexibility may be necessary to maintain business priorities and continuity.
About the person:
As an experienced leader, you will be a motivated and engaging individual who thrives within a busy work environment. Strong attention to detail and a high level of computer literacy is important. Working closely with our maintenance and day operations teams, you will be able to manage multiple priorities. You will have the opportunity to apply your strong understanding of transport or logistics, whilst those who have experience working in heavy industry or manufacturing would find similarities with working in our environment. More about you, ideally you will have:
- At least 5 years transport, earthmoving or logistics experience at a supervisory or management level
- Tertiary degree in engineering or relevant field desired but not essential
- Track record of implementing & leading effective maintenance strategies
- Pragmatic approach to problem solving
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Computer literacy
- A proven desire to learn new tasks
- A high level of initiative and innovation
- An uncompromising attitude to safety.
