Te Tūranga - The Role
The Strategic Technology Architect is a hands-on role at the forefront of innovation in critical communications technologies. With a clear understanding of AI and the evolving needs of public safety and utility customers, you will help shape Tait's future product and service portfolio by identifying high-value technology opportunities and validating them through proofs of concept (POCs) and technical investigations.
You will play a key role in advising on integration strategy, technology partnerships, and next-generation communications architectures, ensuring Tait remains a leader in delivering solutions that make a real difference in the communities we serve.
The duties of the role will include:
- Evaluating and prototyping new technologies for potential integration into Tait's portfolio.
- Conducting internal and external POCs to validate feasibility, integration, and customer impact.
- Tracking and analyzing technology trends in the public safety and utility markets, identifying opportunities and risks.
- Working cross-functionally with product, engineering, and business teams to align innovation initiatives with strategic goals.
- Advising on architectural evolution, interoperability, and adoption of cloud-based or edge-native services.
- Contributing to technical strategy, CTO-level presentations, roadmap planning, and innovation initiatives.
Ō pūkenga - About You
To be successful in this role, you will have a relevant tertiary qualification and/or significant experience in technology strategy, systems engineering, or product architecture within the critical communications sector.
As well as:
- 7+ years' experience in technology strategy, systems engineering, or architecture.
- Strong knowledge of LMR, LTE, and 5G technologies, particularly in public safety and utility environments.
- Familiarity with operational workflows in public safety, utilities, or transportation.
- Experience defining, running, or contributing to POCs or technical assessments of new technologies.
- Experience with cloud technologies.
- The ability to think strategically and practically, turning ideas into validated prototypes.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, engaging effectively with both technical and business stakeholders.
