Te Tūranga | About the role

We’re looking for a Strategic Waste Behaviour Change Lead to join our team. In this role, you’ll guide how we help people change the way they think about and manage waste. You’ll create and lead a clear, practical strategy that supports waste reduction across the city.

This role is about making sure our waste behaviour change efforts are well-planned, based on evidence, and work alongside our services, infrastructure, education, and community engagement.

What you’ll do:

  • Develop and lead a city-wide strategy to support waste behaviour change.
  • Work with teams across Council and with community partners to make sure our approach is joined-up and effective.
  • Use your communications and marketing skills to design campaigns that encourage people to reduce waste.
  • Lead and support the team to deliver behaviour change projects that make a real impact.

Ngā Pukenga | What you’ll need to succeed

To do well in this role, you’ll need:

  • Experience in communications, marketing, or behaviour change—ideally in sustainability or the public sector.
  • A good understanding of how to influence behaviour and create lasting change.
  • Strong skills in working with others, managing projects, and thinking strategically.
  • A passion for protecting the environment and helping communities thrive.
